Dakova is an Ichani, and his brother is Kariko. They had a pact that if one of them was killed, the other would kill the murderer.

Spoilers from "The High Lord"

We find out in The High Lord that Akkarin came across Dakova in the Sachakan wastelands, where he was attacked and enslaved. Dakova read his mind which revealed Kyralia's weakness and he boasted about it. Dakova read Akkarin's mind each night and drained him. It is presumed this is also how Dakova learnt to heal. When Akkarin met another Ichani in a cave and he was taught Black Magic, which he then killed Dakova with after he had been drugged with tainted wine and Akkarin escaped imprisonment. Kariko learnt of what happened and wants revenge.
