Lord Narvelan is an owner of the Loran Ley in north Kyralia and is the friend of Lord Dakon. He convinced Dakon to join the Circle of Friends and is known for being outspoken about the way City Magicians treat the Ley Magicians. He is young, extremely intelligent and loves politics. He is married to a woman named Celia. Narvelan has never taken on an apprentice because he thinks himself too young and says he wouldn't be any good at it.

Narvelan arrives too late to save Mandryn when Takado attacks it and returns to his own ley to evacuate his people. Many magicians of the Circle of Friends join him, as well as Dakon, Tessia and Jayan. Since he doesn't have an apprentice to take power from, he uses a servant as a source.
After the confrontation in Tecurren, Narvelan changes a lot. He becomes hesitant, doubtful and speaks of victory with regret. Killing the Sachakans doesn't bother him anymore.
After the Kyralians win the final battle in Arvice Narvelan rules Sachaka together with Dakon. When Dakon is assasinated, Narvelan steals the store stone and leaves the capital with his slave Hanara. Near the steelbelt ranges, he destroys the stone. The wastelands arise because of the explosion, which kills Narvelan and Hanara
